Scopevisio can be preconfigured for central deployment in two ways: start directly with a fixed customer number, and use a data folder defined by the IT administration outside the standard user profile.
Start directly in an instance
Normally you enter your customer number once when signing in to Scopevisio; it is then suggested automatically. If the customer number is known in advance – for example because a separate program icon is provided for each instance – it can be passed directly at startup instead:
Scopevisio --public-id=1234567
1234567is the customer number as shown in the customer portal.This requires that the installer (.exe on Windows, .dmg/.app on macOS) matches the right environment – the choice between "Standard environment" and "C5 environment" that is also offered when signing in at account.scopevisio.com. This is ensured if the IT administration downloads the installer specifically for this environment from the customer portal.
Who sets this up: the IT administration, when downloading the installer for the right environment from the customer portal and when creating the program icon or shortcut for each instance.
Please note:
A small number of personal settings (including the last customer number used) are stored independently of this in the respective person's user profile and suggested there for the next sign-in.
If the wrong download (a client for a different environment) was used by mistake, the customer number is usually not found there. No understandable error message appears; the program simply does not start (details only visible in the technical log).
Setting the data folder yourself
Scopevisio normally stores its data (Java runtime, configuration, logs) in the standard user profile (%LOCALAPPDATA%/%APPDATA% on Windows). With the environment variable SCOPEVISIO_BASE_DIR, the IT administration can specify any other folder instead – for example if the user profile is restricted, not stored permanently or otherwise unsuitable (often the case on Citrix/terminal server systems):
SCOPEVISIO_BASE_DIR=D:\ScopevisioData\%USERNAME%
On a server where several people sign in at the same time, this folder must be different for each person. The placeholder
%USERNAME%in the single, system-wide value is sufficient for this – it is replaced automatically at every start with the name of the person currently signed in, without the IT administration having to configure anything extra per person. A shared folder for several people is not supported.On a single-user PC without multiple simultaneous sign-ins, a fixed path without a placeholder is also sufficient, e.g.
D:\ScopevisioData.The folder must be writable for every person; details on assigning permissions are a normal Windows administration task.
Who sets this up: the IT administration, once when setting up the machine or server image (e.g. via group policy) – not the individual user.
Please note: A small number of personal settings (including window position and proxy settings) remain in the classic user profile and are not affected by this setting. If the user profile itself is reset, these few settings are lost anyway.
